Their Eyes
Kenya L. - SMI 2024
Their eyes are always the first thing I notice. I learned to read their eyes. I learned to communicate with their eyes.
Knock, Knock.
Their eyes peek out of the window and quickly disappear, sometimes never to be seen again. Their eyes answer the door and squint, skeptical. Scared. Why are you here? Why do you care?
Quick! Lock eyes with me, you’ll know that you’re safe, you can let your guard down. Lock eyes with me, you’ll know that you’re loved with an unconditional, everlasting love.
Their eyes flit, back and forth, watching all angles. Their eyes are cast down. Their eyes inflame. Their eyes soften. Their eyes well with tears. Their eyes smile. Their eyes tell their story before their mouth ever opens to speak.
Knock, Knock.
Hey! Why won’t you look at me? Lock eyes with me. Let me redirect your gaze to Him.
Knock, Knock.
Please, let Him in.
Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through your word. – Psalms 119:37
