I’ve had the blessing of being involved in SMI for a few years now. Each time I participate in a door-to-door outreach or activity with the SMI team I am reminded of why God called me to serve Him in medicine. There is something refreshing about being surrounded by so many people whose passion for seeing others meet Jesus, parallels their passion for providing quality healthcare. Despite participating in many outreaches over the years, I still need to be reminded of many simple truths that often escape me. Things like taking the time to listen to people’s stories and struggles, offering some compassionate or encouraging words, and giving each person you interact with an opportunity to learn that their Savior loves them more than they could ever imagine, are so simple yet often overlooked in my daily life when I let medicine dictate my schedule and priorities. It is never too frequent to be reminded of and introduced to new ways to show Christ’s love to people he places in my path. So I thank God for the opportunity to come back to SMI to be reminded, be to encouraged, and to invest in the lives of other Christian healthcare students and professionals in our journeys to point others to Him.
